The Past and Future of Running is Local

Dec 01 2021

3:00 PM - 3:30 PM CST

Running is a dichotomy of community and individual sport. Running is universal and sits at the center of mental and physical health. It is a solo endeavor that builds community. Sounds like local retail, right? The world has changed, but the human desire to run and be part of a community has not. By focusing on total wellness, running retail can be a part of the massive growth in wellness that goes beyond shoes and socks. Consumers are looking for recovery, sleep, mental and physical optimization – they want to not just perform, but to feel well. Local running stores can help lead this transition from elite performance to elite living. We are seeing the shift from performance to wellness from the Olympics on down. In this talk Gilbert Tuhabonye (Coach, Founder of Gilbert’s Gazelles, Co-Founder The Gazelle Foundation, and Author of Run With Joy) and Paul Carrozza (Coach, Founder of RunTex and arguably the man that made Austin a running town) will lead an interactive discussion on how local running retail can leverage online, community and a broader definition of what it means to run to no only survive but thrive and Run With Joy in our new normal.
