Growing a Running Industry for Girls: Where the Next Generation Begins

Dec 02 2026

Presented by Bras for Girls

Running is touted as the most accessible sport for youth: “all you need,” the saying goes, “is a pair of running shoes.” But for girls, it’s not that simple. Between ages 10 and 18, girls’ bodies change dramatically and without the right knowledge and support, many stop feeling comfortable and included in the sport.

Presented by Bras for Girls, this panel brings together youth running advocates and student athletes to explore the unmet needs keeping girls out of the sport – including participation trends, apparel and gear, and community-based interventions.

Key Takeaways:

  • Identify the gaps in sports bra access and education, and practical ways to close them
  • Understand the unmet equipment needs for middle and high school girls, and where brands and retailers can step in
  • Hear student-athlete perspectives on what keeps girls in the sport, including barriers and opportunities the run specialty community can act on
