Betsy Hughes

In 1978, Betsy was just 17 when she sold her first pair of running shoes as a part-timer at a new store in town called Track Shack. Her passion for running began at age 14, and she’s competed in multiple races and marathons ever since.

Since 1983, Betsy and her husband Jon have co-owned both Track Shack and Track Shack Events in Orlando, Florida, and she became one of the first female run specialty retail owners.

She served on the course measurement teams of three Olympic Women’s Team Trials-Marathons. In 1992, Track Shack was awarded “Outstanding Retailer” by SportStyle Magazine. She and Jon have been inducted into the Running Specialty Hall of Fame and the Running USA Hall of Champions, and were awarded Florida’s Retailer of the Year in 2015. Since 2020, Betsy has served on the Mead Botanical Garden board of trustees.

Now, after more than 50 years of running, Betsy’s experience allows her to share the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle with the Central Florida community.

Betsy manages much of the business operations for Track Shack and Track Shack Events and surrounds herself with over 45 amazing employees, all of whom are inspired to keep others fit and healthy. In 1994, Betsy and Jon established the Track Shack Youth Foundation, and more than $3 million has been given to local charities.

Betsy and Jon have been married almost 44 years and have two adorable granddaughters. Their son Chris is a managing partner of Track Shack, and their daughter Emma teaches Latin.
